How we're different
Welcome To Our Website

Structural Integration Explained
Structural Integration (SI) is a somatic manual therapy approach utilizing fascial manipulation, awareness, and movement education. It is practiced in an organized series of sessions ranging from 3 to 12 designed to restore postural balance and functional ease by aligning and integrating the body in gravity. Structural Integration is based on the work of Dr. Ida P. Rolf. It is practiced by persons who have successfully completed a recognized certification program containing all of the required elements as set forth by the educational standards of the profession.

One of the defining principles of Structural Integration is the inter-relationiships found in our human structure and how we are significantly affected by the powerful force of gravity. When our structures are being held in a misaligned state, our body's valuable resources are used inefficiently, making it extremely difficult for an individual to maintain upright posture in the field of gravity. In addition, the stresses of daily life, physical injuries, unhealthy movement patterns and attitudes can take a toll on one’s physical structure. Over time, the body will shorten and tighten to accommodate the strain or holding patterns creating stiffness, pain, fatigue and lack of well being.

During a Structural Integration series, realignment and balance in the skeletal-myofascial structures are achieved by manipulating the body's myofascial tensegrity system. The focus of Structural Integration is on the fascia rather than on the muscles (as in massage). The fascia is a protective layer of connective tissue that surrounds each muscle and muscle fiber.

"...when the body gets working appropriately, the force of gravity can flow through. Then spontaneously, the body heals itself."  ~ Dr. Ida P. Rolf
